Adrenal Fatigue Disease

Adrenal Fatigue is one of the most under diagnosed diseases in this country.

Adrenal fatigue is not new, people have been experiencing this condition for years. Although there is increasing physician awareness, many are not familiar with adrenal fatigue as a distinct syndrome. Because of this lack of knowledge, patients suffer because they are not properly diagnosed or treated.

The adrenals are two small glands that weigh between 3 to 5 grams located above the kidneys.

The human adrenal gland does not secrete its steroid hormones at a constant level throughout the day. The hormones are actually released in a cycle with the highest value in the morning and the lowest value at night.

An abnormal adrenal rhythm can influence many functions of the body and this is the reason that adrenals can be easily over looked as a problem.

What are the symptoms?

  • Lack of energy
  • Decreased ability to handle stress
  • Salt cravings
  • Depression
  • Muscle weakness
  • Forgetful
  • Prolonged sleep - still wake up tired
  • Numbness in fingers and toes
  • Always feeling run down/tired
  • Low sex drive
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Migraine headaches

Causes

The cause of adrenal fatigue is still unknown. Speculation is toxic exposure, a genetic inheritance, stress, viruses, bacteria, immune dysfunction, these are a things that doctors point to as a cause.

Doctors routinely test for Epstein Barr virus, they have found this virus is connected to adrenal fatigue. Although, you still can have adrenal fatigue even if this virus is not found in your system.

What can you do to treat adrenal problems?

One thing is for sure, if you do not address this problem your adrenal glands can be permanently damaged. If this happens you will be on medication for life.

The B complex supplement pantothenic acid and diet can rejuvenate these glands. The effectiveness depends on what stage your adrenals are in.

Stress, excess exercise, lack of sleep, all contribute to overworked adrenals. Correcting these factors, along with proper supplements, will aid in the rejuvenation of your adrenal glands.

Unless there was some trauma that caused your adrenals to fail like an accident or fall, the decline is usually gradual.

How common is adrenal stress?

An estimated 80% of North Americans suffer from Adrenal Fatigue at some point in their lives. Sometimes this is temporary and only lasts a few days. Other times it can be debilitating and last for years, or even a lifetime if nothing is done about it.

This problem is missed many times because it's hard to identify. It is often mistaken as just thinking a person is "run down" or you hear "they are slowing down due to old age",and the fact is they have adrenal fatigue.

Testing is simple. A pituitary stimulation test and a saliva test are common. These tests are painless and inexpensive.

Be persistent, doctors don't seem to know or want to deal with this issue, but now you know it exists and what it is.
